Dedicated Practitioner's Program - 2010

Resuming Friday, September 24th with Kristin & Desiree

In September, we'll look at the challenges to honesty with self, and how to navigate through the self empathy needed when we go to those sticky spots.

In October, we'll venture into the challenges in dealing with honesty with others in our lives: our partners, children, families of origin, bosses and co-workers, neighbors and strangers.

In November we'll move into the realm of honesty in the groups and community. What skills and conditions are required to allow us to address issues and requests in groups we live, work, volunteer and study with.

These sessions will build upon one another, so we recommend that people sign up for all three, to serve trust in our DPP community as well as understanding of this path of honesty. We are still accepting drop-ins, but ask your consideration, if at all possible, to register in advance, for the benefit of our planning and peace of mind.

Tapestries: Weaving Stories to Create Meaning, Purpose and Belonging

From an early age, we are told stories to give our lives context, meaning, and perspective. Religious stories, creation stories, family and cultural stories help us define who we are and navigate our way in the world. They give us a touchstone and a map to make decisions about relationships, family, jobs, domicile, spirituality, and other choices along the way. During Spring DPP, we will explore our own personal stories--those we've been told and those we've come to believe--and how they have served us through life. Which stories have supported us in living our dreams and which stories have not served us so well? Are there stories we want to retain/release? Are there new stories we want to create? Are there new strategies and self-requests waiting to be made?

April 16: Self Stories. What are some of the beliefs we hold about ourselves such as I am/am not___________I can/can't ________________. I'm not good at/good at _______________. I will never/always _______________. How have these beliefs supported us and helped us to meet our needs? As we come to understand how these beliefs and stories have shaped our lives, what new requests/strategies of self emerge?

May 7: Family, Relational Stories. What do we believe about our family of origin? Our current family/relationships? What kind of relationships do we believe we need in order to be happy, content? How has this affected and colored our current, past, and future relationships? What do these stories inform us about current relationships? Are there requests we can make of self or others to better meet needs?

June 18: The World and Our Place in it. This month we will look at our beliefs around work, service, play, leisure time, religion/spirituality, global and world events. What beliefs do we hold about the world in which we live and our place in it? Do you believe in a god/spirit/higher power? How has this served you? What type of employment do you/did you have and how do you relate to it? What causes do you support and why? How do you spend your leisure time? As we explore these topics and stories that surround them, what new strategies and/or self-requests emerge?

Participation is limited to 25. If you are interested in taking part in this program, please email Laurie NVC Santa Cruz Director.
We hope you will join us like-hearted giraffes in building community and compassion with NVC consciousness!

Kristin Masters and Desiree Banzhaf led the first DDP series this year,
and this is how it went:

For those who have taken to the gifts of NVC, and still want more, we are most pleased to announce the 2010 Dedicated Practitioner Program.

We believe in the power of practice in community to support us to continue our growth and learning. This year we are trying DPP a new way. We've broken it into three-month chunks to be with the same duo of trainers, thinking that this will support deepening into consistency and knowing of one another, allowing for a wider trust to build on and work from.

Beginning on January 22, we are offering this 9-month Dedicated Practitioners Program with monthly sessions on Friday nights between 3:30-7:30 PM* and a quarterly Saturday session, 10-5. The Saturday is optional, though highly encouraged, as we'll spend that day both in NVC and other community building activities. We will organize a potluck meal to share in each session.

So far, Kristin Masters and Desiree Banzhaf have organized the first trimester as follows:
Friday, Jan 22, 3:00-7:00 * slightly earlier
Friday, Feb 5, 3:30-7:30
Saturday, Feb 6, 10-5
Friday, Mar 5th, 3:30-7:30

Kristin and Des have plans for offering more of Robert Gonzales' continually evolving work. They'll explore practices that seek to empower us into the freedom that choicefulness and self-responsibility can bring. Compassionate embrace. Transforming core beliefs. Authentic dialogue. Juicy and nourishing practices. They really want you to come and dive in!

Save these dates:
September 24th
October 15th
November 12th

All sessions meet from 3:30-7:30pm
